Two by Two Hurrah create an Enchanted Speke for the Summer

An enchanting outdoor family trail will be open seven days a week throughout the entire summer at Speke Hall. This beautiful installation of many magical parts was designed in collaboration with community artist Zoe Taylor from ‘Two by Two Hurrah’ with Speke Hall’s  Visitor Experience team Catherine Jackman  and Michele Brennan.

Discover a world of magical and mischievous woodland fairies throughout the grounds of Speke Hall this summer, inspired by Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. Experience an otherworldly adventure as you hunt for the fairies, listen to the mythical whisperings of the fairy kingdom and enjoy supernatural festivities in the ancient woodlands.

“Creating a trail of magic, mystery and fairy fun for Speke Hall has been an absolute pleasure and plenty of fun. Midsummer Nights Dream is one of Shakespeare’s classics and Speke Hall is the perfect setting for exploring magical spaces for children and families to play, imagine and explore. ‘Two by Two Hurrah’ are looking forward to seeing visitors interact with the installations and wish them a magical summer.” – Zoe Taylor; artist and Director at ‘Two by Two’

The grounds have been transformed into a world of fairy fun and festivities. Areas such as the picnic area, the woodland play area and kitchen garden all contain miniature fairies to find, melodic fairy song to capture and fun activities such as dressing up as characters from ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and performing lines and quotes on a lovely gazebo stage.

“There is an exciting sense of magical adventure throughout Speke Hall this summer, and surprises around every corner of the ‘Enchanted Speke’ Midsummer Nights Dream trail. We’re looking forward to seeing all the selfies and family photographs of our fairy visitors making magical wedding banquets of leaves and pine cones in the woodlands and daydreaming on the enchanted golden beds in the Kitchen Garden. This really is a special and extraordinary day out for all the family” – Michele Brennan, Visitor Services Officer

There will also be story telling and face painting on selected days throughout the summer. Information boards on what’s on each day will be available at reception.

“There will be an extra special treat on Tuesday 22 August when the amazing Pantaloons perform their brilliant and hilarious ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ outdoor theatre on the north lawn at Speke Hall. Tickets sell like hot fairy cakes, so do book online and bring the family for fun alfresco theatre and a picnic tea” – Catherine Jackman, Visitor Experience Manager

There will also be an outdoor theatre performance of  the play ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ on Tuesday 22 August

Performed by the always hilarious and incredilbly talented acting troupe The Pantaloons. Tickets are on sale on our website for £14 for adults and £7 for children. 7pm – 9pm on the north lawn. Tickets can be bought online:

Summer Trails, workshops and Celebrations!

Two by Two Hurrah HQ has landed back from the Whit holidays with an action packed couple of months ahead of us. There is a lot of fun to be had and it seems only fair we share the excitement with you all! Hopefully we will see you all over the summer enjoying our crazy trails and craft antics.

Who Shrunk the Zoo?

The launch of our summer trail on Sat 22nd July 10.30-3.30 is going to be another action packed fun day at Waterside Plaza, Sale. To launch the 5 week trail we will be hosting a free craft event in Sale Library alongside great fun outside with the Professor Jigget, facepainting, Ice Cream Van, fun stalls, chalk drawing and more.

Waterside Art Centre are also launching their wonderful Refract week so will have lots going on alongside us on the Plaza, including an open air show.

If you think Who Shrunk the Zoo looks fun, we are running an exclusive workshop the week before on Saturday 15th July at Waterside Art Centre. The workshop will offer a small group of children the chance to contribute towards the trail map design, adopt and decorate their own shrunken zoo animal and become chief Two by Two Detectives. Tickets are £8 and can be booked via Waterside Art Centre.

Midsummers Dream at Speke Hall

It is with huge excitement that we can share news of a second trail that Two by Two Hurrah are running this summer!

We are producing a trail for the stunning National Trust property Speke Hall which is next door to Liverpool Airport. A hidden gem with glorious gardens and house as well as fantastic play areas and maze for the children.

Speke Hall are hosting a series of outside theatre productions during the summer, all adaptations of Shakespeare plays. A Midsummer Nights Dream is included and is the theme chosen for their summer trail.

We are plotting magical fairy gardens, amazing sleep zone installations, a performance stage and not forgetting the wedding banquet. Be prepared for a trail of magic, love mystery and adventure!

The trail will run at Speke Hall from Saturday 22nd July – Sunday 3rd September. Details are yet to be released by the National Trust. We will share information as soon as it is available.

Cow Lane, Sale Water Park

We have been asked by City of Trees, Sale Water Park and Trafford Council to produce information boards around Sale Water Park that are designed with children in mind.

There is a huge amount of work being done at the park to help improve it as a family attraction and much of this is about preserving the nature reserve areas that have been neglected. With that in mind we took a look at the history of the park and the track that runs round the water. The road/track is called Cow Lane, historically because it was used by farmers to walk the cows across fields.

Not to miss out on an animal theme, we are creating information boards in the shape of cows as a dedication to the areas history. We will be working with local schools Temple Moor Infants, Moorlands Juniors and Manor High to design the boards.

Trail of Tales 2018

Our plans for a Trafford wide trail next year are still progressing. Trail of Tales will be an exciting installation of over 70 larger than life book sculptures placed across the borough inside libraries and around town centres and areas.

Similar to Sale Art Zoo, the sculptures will be decorated by schools and community groups, a fantastic opportunity to bring the whole borough together, celebrating our libraries, stories, communities and towns.

We promise to share more news as soon as we can.

If you would like to keep up to date with all of our projects, then please like/follow us on the following: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We regularly share photos, news, information on social media and love hearing feedback from you all too.

Last but not least…

Don’t forget we are recruiting! Scroll further down our page to see details of the positions we are hoping to fill soon. Closing date is 30th June.

Wishing you all a fantastic summer. Hopefully we will see you at our Sale Waterside launch on the 22nd July, or over the summer at one of the trails.

New Year… New Two by Two!

Happy New Year from Two by Two Hurrah!

Two by Two have been looking back on 2016 and feeling pretty awesome about all the fun and adventures we achieved. The Sale Art Zoo project was a huge success and we are proud of how much fun Sale had celebrating the zoo and its wonderful creative achievements.

The adventures of 2016 did not stop there and some big changes took place in the Autumn.  Anna (who co-founded the group with Zoe) decided to move on to house renovations and so after much deliberation Zoe decided to transition Two by Two the community group to  Two by Two Hurrah Ltd. (There have been plenty of One by One jokes made but despite going solo the name is staying!)

The structure and team of Two by Two might have changed but the ethos and ideas are still firing on full and Zoe is planning some amazing adventures for Sale and Trafford over the next year or two.

We already have a collaboration with the fantastic Our Kids Social scheduled for the end of January celebrating their First Birthday at Sale Masonic Hall. Two by Two will be running the Make Do and Mess area. Our Kids Social will also have classic tunes on vinyl revival, two additional channels of choice with silent disco, groovy baby multi-sensory experience, face painting, Shake the room dance moves with Holly, fun and dress up at our “Madhatters party” by For Just One Day, toddler fun with Jo Jingles, the magnificent Manchester mural, parties 4 U incredible balloon making, the legendary OKS photo frame, delicious homemade cakes and of course not forgetting a fully licensed bar – phew! It’s going to be a big one! It is a ticketed event so book now to avoid disappointment!

Two by Two are also bringing an Easter Trail to Sale which will have the kids chasing rabbits all over town during the holidays in April. We will be collaborating with local businesses as well as running competitions and craft opportunities. We are still planning this one but do keep an eye out on our Facebook and Twitter pages for updates.

A huge collaboration with Trafford Libraries is also being planned. Following the success of Sale Art Zoo, Two by Two Hurrah are working towards an even bigger scale trail for Summer 2018. With a working title of Trail of Tales, the project will be an amazing opportunity for communities and schools to work together again on a spectacular installation on the streets of Trafford.  More details will be released soon as we will be looking for business sponsors across Trafford.

There is always more in the pipe line with more collaborations and fun stuff planned for 2017. Do follow us for more details.

Well, that is all for now….. looking forward to seeing you all soon at one of our events. Best wishes and adventures for 2017.

The Summer of Sale Art Zoo

The Summer of 2016 in Sale will always be remembered by the 37 life size fibre glass animals that Two by Two bought to the streets of Sale.

In celebration of George Mottershead, Sale born founder of Chester Zoo, the whole of Sale have enjoyed the animal sculptures around town for eight weeks . George’s story is of an inspirational man who dedicated much of his life to opening up the zoo, now one of the worlds leading Zoo’s for conservation and public popularity.

Basic CMYK

Over 15,000 stomped their way round Sale Town Centre, local parks, Sale Moor and beyond hunting for the amazing sculptures that had been decorated by all of the Sale Primary schools, local artists and businesses.

The Sale Art Zoo project kick started with a fab fun day at Sale Waterside Plaza where over 200 people came to celebrate the launch with free entertainment, activities and goody bags. Families played amongst the animals, soaking up the atmosphere… before picking up a free trail map and hunting for more animals.

Local businesses joined the Zoo by sponsoring chimpanzees which hung from shop windows, ceilings and even had images projected on them in the library. The chimpanzees were a great addition to the 17 animals that had been taken into the Primary Schools in January and decorated with different themes and materials by the schools and Two by Two.

The Sale Art Zoo has been a huge success with many families and communities contacting Two by Two with messages of support and appreciation. It has truly been a fantastic celebration for the town.

Be Bold!

Trafford Council have produced this short film about what we do as Two by Two. It explains a bit about what we’re trying to achieve through our work in the local area, and also has some lovely footage from our Lollipop Lady mosaic project. Big thank you to Alex from Viaduct Video who put this together, and to the Communities and Partnerships team at Trafford Council who commissioned the short film.

Artist Sarah Mitch faces tall order!

Local artist Sarah Mitch will be decorating The Square’s new pet – a 12ft fibreglass model giraffe that will be on display as part of Sale Art Zoo this Summer.

It is one of around 35 zoo animals ranging from baby hippos, rhinos and penguins, to pelicans, alligators, and chimpanzees that will be placed around the town for the duration of the eight-week exhibition.

Sarah has worked with her own photographic images of Sale, as well as a selection of historic images of the town sourced from local archives. On Thursday 26th of May Sarah will be found with her 12ft leggy subject in the heart of the town centre for a LIVE decorating event in public view at The Square Shopping Centre, Sale.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be involved in such an exciting and ambitious community based project. My focus in my pictures is all about what we miss in the everyday, the colour, texture and light. It’s a big challenge as I am working with a 3 dimensional figure and usually my canvases are hung on a wall!

Anna Chopping, Project Coordinator at Two by Two commented “We were so delighted when Sarah agreed to be the commissioned artist for the giraffe at The Square. Two by Two have always loved her work, and when we were looking at artists that would rise to the challenge of a 12ft blank canvas, Sarah was top of our list!”

Come along to see Sarah in action this Thursday 26th of May, from 11am til 3pm in The Square Shopping Centre, Sale!

Shared Memories

2X2_SQ_PCARD_COMP

Two by Two are working with The Square Shopping Centre in Sale on a project that is set to stir up some good memories.

We have printed a set of postcards that invite local people to share a memory they have of Sale in days gone by. We want to encourage people to remember fond times and places in Sale, to stir a little nostalgia and celebrate the town’s heritage.

So if you’re in town and fancy a coffee, please pick up a postcard, write us a memory, and post it into one of the postboxes in The Square. In the coming weeks we will share these memories in a display in the town centre as part of the Sale Art Zoo exhibition this Summer 2016.
