Trafford Council have produced this short film about what we do as Two by Two. It explains a bit about what we’re trying to achieve through our work in the local area, and also has some lovely footage from our Lollipop Lady mosaic project. Big thank you to Alex from Viaduct Video who put this together, and to the Communities and Partnerships team at Trafford Council who commissioned the short film.
Local artist Sarah Mitch will be decorating The Square’s new pet – a 12ft fibreglass model giraffe that will be on display as part of Sale Art Zoo this Summer.
It is one of around 35 zoo animals ranging from baby hippos, rhinos and penguins, to pelicans, alligators, and chimpanzees that will be placed around the town for the duration of the eight-week exhibition.
Sarah has worked with her own photographic images of Sale, as well as a selection of historic images of the town sourced from local archives. On Thursday 26th of May Sarah will be found with her 12ft leggy subject in the heart of the town centre for a LIVE decorating event in public view at The Square Shopping Centre, Sale.
“I am absolutely thrilled to be involved in such an exciting and ambitious community based project. My focus in my pictures is all about what we miss in the everyday, the colour, texture and light. It’s a big challenge as I am working with a 3 dimensional figure and usually my canvases are hung on a wall!
Anna Chopping, Project Coordinator at Two by Two commented “We were so delighted when Sarah agreed to be the commissioned artist for the giraffe at The Square. Two by Two have always loved her work, and when we were looking at artists that would rise to the challenge of a 12ft blank canvas, Sarah was top of our list!”
Come along to see Sarah in action this Thursday 26th of May, from 11am til 3pm in The Square Shopping Centre, Sale!
Two by Two are working with The Square Shopping Centre in Sale on a project that is set to stir up some good memories.
We have printed a set of postcards that invite local people to share a memory they have of Sale in days gone by. We want to encourage people to remember fond times and places in Sale, to stir a little nostalgia and celebrate the town’s heritage.
So if you’re in town and fancy a coffee, please pick up a postcard, write us a memory, and post it into one of the postboxes in The Square. In the coming weeks we will share these memories in a display in the town centre as part of the Sale Art Zoo exhibition this Summer 2016.
Last night we were invited to talk at one of Forever Manchester‘s networking events in support of female-led community projects across Greater Manchester. It was a great privilege to be asked to speak at such an event, and a great opportunity for us to share news of our projects and the great support we have received on our journey with Two by Two.
We had a fantastic morning with mosaic artist Tracey Cartledge earlier this week. Two by Two were joined by pupils from Park Road Primary School, Wellfield Infant and Nursery School and Wellfield Juniors School on a visit Tracey’s studio to see the work in progress on the community mosaic being produced to celebrate local lollipop lady Heather Morris’ 45 years service crossing children safely.
Please check out the photos through this link to our Facebook page. We will keep you updated on Tracey’s progress over these coming weeks, and be sure to save the date of the 6th May when Heather’s Mosaic will be unveiled to the public once it is installed on the wall of The Cornerhouse Costcutter store on Glebelands Road.
We’re loving seeing the design entries that are coming in from the local school children Lollipop Lady Heather Morris has been crossing. Very much looking forward to seeing how the mosaic design will take shape once artist Tracey Cartledge has selected some winning entries!
We’ve been receiving some great design entries for Heather’s Mosaic from the children of three local primary schools. Soon artist Tracey Cartledge will be judging the submissions, selecting some winners and assembling the final design! #heathersmosaic #heatherscorner #makingadifferencelocally #saletown #wellfieldinfants #wellfieldjuniors #parkroadprimarysale #communityart #mcr #roadsafety #lollipoplady #mosaicart #beboldtrafford
Sale Messenger have helped us to celebrate this fantastic donation from Akash and family from the Nisa Local store on Heather’s Corner. Please click on this link to read all about it😉
Rain or shine(!) we’re going to be getting gluey and glittery in Sale Library from 10:30am today. We hope the rain will hold off for us to light up Sale town from 3:40pm at The Square when we’ll be parading all our lanterns down to the Waterside to meet Father Christmas from his sleigh-boat!
We hope to see you there!
